Happy New Year and some Random Thoughts

Happy New Year and welcome 2012! 2011 was a year of ups and downs for me. We had to clean out my parents' home (60 years of memories) and drive away and not look back, I became a grandma to the cutest little guy around, Cutter Jeff Thomas, my little doxy Bobbi died unexpectedly, and Jeff & I made a big decision and moved 800 miles away from our family and friends to start anew in the Pacific Northwest. So in no particular order, here are some random photos and thoughts.

Here is our new casa, a cute little townhouse in Ferndale, Washington.

This is the view from our bedroom window. I love Mount Baker

Our little Charlie Brown Christmas tree, complete with handmade ornaments.

A great couple here invited us over for New Years Eve so I made some Seasoned Pretzels and Caramel Bugels.

Caramel Bugels
3 cubes real butter (Paula Deen would be proud!)
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 can light Karo syrup
1 can sugar
1 can brown sugar
(Yes, you use the sweetened condensed milk can to measure the karo and the sugars!) Mix together the above ingredients in a large saucepan. Stirring constantly, bring to a boil and boil for 4 minutes. Pour over 3 bags of Bugels. Toss carefully and spread out on a wax paper.

Seasoned Pretzels
Mix together:
1 bottle Orville Redenbacher butter popping oil
1 packet ranch dressing mix
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
Pour over 2 lbs pretzels. Stir well. Put in a bowl with a lid and leave on the counter. Every time you walk by it, tip the bowl over. It will be ready to eat the next day. I then spread them out on a paper towel-covered cookie sheet to get rid of some of the extra oil. Store in a ziploc baggie.

Laci and Dani flew in on Christmas Eve to spend Christmas with us. We explored Seattle a bit. Here is a cool view of the Seahawk stadium.
Dani in front of this really cool building by the Space Needle.

A couple of shots of the Space Needle.

Jeff, the girls and I went out to Birch Bay and spent the afternoon. Yes, it was chilly!

Here is our Cutter Jeff. Isn't he just the cutest!

Jeff is working on the DeBruin Dairy in Sumas. Here he is turning the heifers out to eat. Dani took this picture and called it "Releasing the Beasts!" I love this picture!

A new year always brings resolutions! I found this subway art at
and I think it sums up some good resolutions for the new year!

I have the usual resolutions: get fit, eat better, love more, finish unfinished projects, be more creative, be a better wife/mom/grandma/friend, serve others more and enjoy the journey. Fingers crossed...ok 2012....bring it on!!!!

  1. Oh,Robbin...I feel a tear coming on. Happy for you, yet know how hard it must be to make such a huge change. So glad the girls were able to be there with you for Christmas. What a fantastic view from your window! Wozers!

  2. So glad that you posted. I've really been wondering how you were doing. Glad to see the girls were able to spend Christmas with you. I sure miss seeing you once in awhile! Keep up the posting so we can see how you are doing.

  3. So fun to see your yearly re-cap. Wishing you all the best in your new adventure!! I think it's so great you went outside your comfort zone and took a chance. Just like I tell my college kids, You never know until you try and home isn't going anywhere. :)

  4. What a busy year you had.I am new to your blog and spent some time browsing through your earlier posts. I'm so glad I did that. I really enjoyed the time I spent here and I'll definitely be back. I hope you have a great evening. Blessings...Mary
